CULTUREWORK, by Committee. [A Reader Survey]
The last chance for democracy in this country, probably.
I started writing The Weekly Work here on Substack almost two years ago, loooong before the end of TikTok became a reality. This newsletter has been the plant I’ve watered, the baby I’ve fed, even when I disappeared from TikTok for weeks on end. One hundred and twenty-five posts in, I figure this might be a great time to ask the studio audience how they’re feeling about things.
We’ve had a bit of a jump in subscribers since the end of TikTok-as-we-know-it. But, I’ll always remember the first 10, the first 100 of you who signed up that first day. The ones of y’all that turned me into a Substack Bestseller. Organically. The ones who liked, recommended, shared, and platformed me. No handouts from Substack PR, no email lists purchased. Just us. Special thanks to the 10,000 that stayed and hungout this year despite me being a tiny-bit inconsistent since Tropical Storm Honeybaby showed us this year. For the extra 6,000 that popped over here in the last few weeks, welcome!
Substack does certain things well (and certain things not-so-well), and as one of the few creators on here who’s been balancing and successfully building both TikTok and Substack for years at this point, know that we’re going to have to be a little flexible. We’ll figure out though. Together.
