The ceasefire is officially over, though, per reports from the civilians, college students, and hobbyist photographers who all became war journalists 58 days ago, the attacks may have never actually stopped. As airstrikes resume leveling residential neighborhoods and troops tactically block exist routes, survivors and those told to evacuate from the north are now effectively locked in nothing more than just simply a pen of horror. With tanks closing in, journalists Bisan Owda, Motaz Azaizi, and others have turned to social media to share their final words and goodbyes as survival becomes more urgent than ever.

I really want Americans to read their words closely. Being sympathetic, being a progressive voter, being vocal, being an ally doesn’t provide padding or absolve us from responsibility. We still share collective responsibility, guilt, and consequence for their collective punishment.

I felt like it was worth using the top half of this newsletter for them.
