I'm Back + LA Elections + VICE Media Layoffs 👎👎👎 + LitHub <3 + Vivienne Westwood + Iris Apfel + Aaron Bushnell + Black Voter Pandering + SZA x Sesame Street
Good Afternoon team, is everybody ready to close out Q1 with a bang?!!!
(Sorry…)
I’m back. Thank you for your patience. I made the mistake of moving during a full moon. It turned my eyebrow hair white and went over budget (not my fault, currently resolving that with the company), but other than that, I’m slowly settling in, trying to get organized, and struggling to hold space to feel happy and grateful, which is, of course, part of the uniquely Black experience of trying to relish in joy, art, and creation in spite of the never-ending dark times.
February was an internet month that ran wild with quadroons and much funnier parodies, TV documentaries that should’ve never been made (Wendy, J Lo, et al), Love is Blind everything, “The Unknown,” Kate Middleton’s debilitating BBL recovery, and the introduction of Mr. Piss, one of the most sound commenters of our time. To. Name. A. Few
Tuesday, of course, is election day.
I’m in my L.I.B. era (“Let It Burn”), but if you’re Los Angeles, vote yes on HLA. If you’re in CD4, where councilwoman Nithya Raman is running for re-election, deeply consider why a “progressive” incumbent is inviting blackface-wearing, islamophobic zionist Sarah Silverman to fundraise for her. I would say you can ask her yourself, but, of course, she and team are deleting IG comments. Accountable girlboss queen, yaaass.
Anyway, TTYL.
